Gauging Games to Buy on Console

Things to consider when purchasing a game launched on both consoles.

With the recent price drops of the new consoles there will be more and more players that have an array of next-gen consoles. The Wii U is a beast of its own so this is mostly for the PS4 and Xbox One. There are a lot of games that are released on multiple consoles.

NOTE THERE IS NO VERSUS BETWEEN THEM…

Multiplayer Fuctionality

The first thing to consider when deciding between the two consoles is the functionality of multiplayer. Using myself as an example, I do not use the PS4 multiplayer much. In turn games like Destiny or Call of Duty are not very useful on the PS4. If a game has no social abilities (leaderboards don’t count) I prefer them on a console I don’t have a lot of social interactivity.

Achievements/Trophies

Another thing to consider is the ease of completion of trophies and/or achievements. If you are an “achievement whore” or “trophy whore” or even care about your score on either console. You may want to think about which console would be better off getting the completion score for. You should consider the length of the game as well time vs gamerscore/trophy score. Is the time you play the game worth it?

Replay Value

Another option to consider is replay value. Even though you may want a game with multiplayer capabilities on a certain console, you could also look at which section of the game you will be playing more than the other. If you are going to spend more time on single player mode of a game that has slight multiplayer is it worth getting on your social console.

Price Drops

The last thing that is a possibility to look at before buying a game, is the price. If you think that the game is going drop in price quickly you could just wait and get the game on both consoles. This time of year is a massive offender of this rule. Games that have come out recently are more than likely to be on sale for times around the holiday season.

No matter what console you buy a game for, and no matter your reason everyone has their own logic behind a buy. I for one just like game and have some games on both console because I like to play what I want, when I want, and on which console I prefer. What is your justification for purchasing on certain consoles? Comment below.
