You've probably come across a broken Moon Lantern, but how do you get it in working order in Baldur's Gate 3?

You’ll likely come across a broken Moon Lantern or two while making your way to and through the Shadow-Cursed Lands. In fact, the dwarf guarding the elevator in Grymforge won’t let you go to the Shadow-Cursed Lands if you say you don’t have one. So how do you fix the broken Moon Lantern in Baldur’s Gate 3?

Can You Fix the Broken Moon Lantern in BG3?

Broken Moon Lanterns can’t be fixed. At most, you can examine one closer at Grymforge for a better understanding of how it works. For protection against the Shadow Curse, you need to find a working Moon Lantern because fixing the broken ones isn’t an option. However, you do have two options for getting a working Moon Lantern in your possession.

Get a Moon Lantern From Balthazar

First, you can go right to Moonrise Towers and continue the story section there, where you’ll be instructed to pick up a working Moon Lantern from Balthazar’s chambers.

Steal Kar’niss’ Moon Lantern

Second, you can work with the Harpers to plan an ambush, then take Kar’niss’ working Moon Lantern. I used this option and was able to convince him to hand the Moon Lantern over to me before fighting him.

Should You Free the Moon Lantern’s Pixie?

Coming across a Moon Lantern then leads to the decision of whether you should free the Pixie trapped inside. Freeing it will give you a buff that negates the Shadow Curse without a Moon Lantern in your possession, which is worth freeing it. It’s more convenient, and if you really want to be evil, you can kill the Pixie after receiving the buff anyway.

So, when it comes to how to fix the broken Moon Lantern in Baldur’s Gate 3, the question is really how to find a working one and if you should free the Pixie once you get your hands on one.
