The feud between Apple and Epic Games isn’t a secret, since Fortnite isn’t available on iOS. Can you play Fortnite on Mac computers? That’s what we’ll answer in this guide.
Are You Able to Install Fortnite on Mac PCs?
Epic Games demanded Apple waive their purchase services fees for V-buck purchases on iOS and Mac back in 2020, a move which pushed Apple to eventually ban Epic-developed titles in August of that year. Fortnite hasn’t been available on iOS devices in all this time, but it has been available on Mac. At least, sort of.
While Fortnite was totally banned from iPhones and iPads, it’s still running on Mac computers in a gutted state. Because Apple has barred Epic Games from developing it further on their platform, Fortnite on Mac remains on version 13.40, which is the build it was running on in August 2020.
Fortnite on Mac has no crossplay with other platforms, so you won’t be able to play with people on PC or consoles. It also has no way to get V-bucks, meaning you can’t get skins or anything like that either. In essence, Fortnite on Mac is in a fossilized state, a sort of time capsule into quarantine days.
How to Play Fortnite on Mac
If you’ve read all this and you still want to give it a go, you can download the Epic Game Store website and download the client. You’ll be able to download Fortnite from the EGS client, but be warned: the download is nearly 100GB.
And what answers whether you can play Fortnite on Mac. For other platforms, Fortnite OG just released and offers a similar experience to what Mac players can experience, just better in every way. Check out our Fortnite guides here on GameSkinny.
