Cyberpunk 2077: How to Start the Phantom Liberty Expansion

Starting the Phantom Liberty expansion for Cyberpunk 2077 is pretty easy, though it might take some time. Here's how.

Accessing the Phantom Liberty expansion in Cyberpunk 2077 either takes no time or about a dozen hours (if you’re rushing). The expansion’s story canonically takes place just after one of the midway point missions of the base Cyberpunk campaign. You’re liable to be around at least level 20 or so if you beeline it straight for adventures in Dogtown. The expansion is also playable at any time after you reach the point it starts, so if you’ve achieved 100% completion in the main game, the DLC will still be entirely new. Here’s how to start Phantom Liberty in Cyberpunk 2077.

There are actually two ways to start the Phantom Liberty story campaign — as well as earn permanent access to the new Dogtown district. The easiest and fastest is to start a new game on the main menu, then select Skip Ahead to Phantom Liberty. You’ll plop right into the campaign with a preset character, level, and Attribute and perk loadout. If all you care about is seeing the new content, there’s no better way to start the expansion.

You can, of course, always change your appearance and respec all your stats at a later date. The rest of the game’s content is also available. This means you can return to the base Cyberpunk 2077 storyline and experience any endings you may have missed.

Should you want to start a new playthrough to see all the changes made in the 2.0 update or prefer not to use the skip option, that’s doable as well. To start Phantom Liberty normally, you need to progress the Cyberpunk 2077 main story campaign until you meet with the Voodoo Boys in Pacifica, starting with M’ap Tann Pèlen and ending with Transmission.

After exiting the Voodoo Boy’s hideout, you’ll receive a slightly corrupted transition from Songbird who will direct you to Dogtown. This is the main NPC character of the Phantom Liberty expansion.

Whether you skip or play to the start of Phantom Liberty, once you reach the gates of Dogtown, Songbird will help you dodge the blockade at the district’s main gates. You’ll watch President Myers’ jet get shot down and eventually gain access to the Dogtown open world. After that, you can play Cyberpunk 2077 as you would expect: in almost any way you please.

That covers how to start the Phantom Liberty expansion in Cyberpunk 2077. For much more on Phantom Liberty and Cyberpunk 2077 as a whole, check out our guides hub for the game.
