Destiny 2: How to Get Austringer (2023)

Getting the Austringer in 2023 is quite a bit different than it was when the gun came out most recently. Here's how.

It’s 2023, and things have changed. Considering that Hand Cannons have always been one of the most iconic weapon classes in the game, you may be wondering how to get Austringer in Destiny 2. Classics like The Last Word, Thorn, Fatebringer, and the sunset legend Midnight Coup are some of the franchise’s most fondly remembered weapons. This Exotic Hand Cannon, which first appeared during the Season of Opulence, refreshed another old favorite from D1: the Eyasluna. But it’s not as easy to get as it once was.

Here’s how to get Austringer in Destiny 2 in 2023:

  • Buy it from Banshee.
  • Buy it from Xur.

Unfortunately, there’s no good way to go about getting this Exotic efficiently in 2023. The Leviathan Season of the Haunted activity, and its associated seasonal vendor, are gone, so you can’t earn its crafting pattern nor reliably farm it out in the world. The last two places you can earn an Austringer are as a purchasable reward from Banshee-44 in the Tower and Xur, wherever he is any particular week.

Buying Austringer From Banshee

Banshee has a selection of five weapons from previous seasons and loot pools every day. That includes Season of the Haunted weapons. The Austringer will sometimes appear in the rotation, but the perks will be random (like everything else), and there’s no guarantee that what you get will be any good. Any you get from Banshee will also be the standard version, though you could use a Deepsight Harmonizer to give it the ability to drop its crafting pattern. Sadly, until we know how to get more of the things, you’re limited to three per Season, and you need five for the pattern.

Then there’s Xur, your friendly neighborhood peddler of (usually trash) Exotics. He also has a rotating selection of weapons from older content: seven in total. His offerings rotate weekly rather than daily, commensurate to his larger selection and additional services. Like Banshee, getting this Exotic Hand Cannon from Xur is completely random.

I recommend getting the first Austringer you can get your hands on, then using it regardless of its perk pool so you can at least get a sense of how the weapon functions and feels to use. As additional instances of the weapon appear, you can pick those up as well and see what perk options best suit your playstyle.

That’s how to get Austringer in Destiny 2 in 2023. Sadly not the cakewalk it once was, replaced instead by a confounding wait with no guarantee of anything worth having.
