Disney Dreamlight Valley: How to Get Olaf

Dreamlight Valley's Festival of Friendship update has brought Olaf, and a snowstorm. Here's how to complete The Great Blizzard quest and get Olaf.

Olaf is the lovable snowman from the Frozen series, and thanks to the new Major Update 3: Festival of Friendship in Disney Dreamlight Valley he is officially an unlockable character in the game. To access the The Great Blizzard quest and meet Olaf, you will need Elsa as a companion and The Frozen Heights biome ready.

How to Get Olaf in Disney Dreamlight Valley

Elsa’s Frozen castle door costs 4,000 Dreamlight to open, and you will need to complete the subsequent questline to bring her to your Valley. We recommend bringing Elsa as a companion on the quest so that you don’t have to chase her down later.

How to Reach the Frosted Heights

To reach The Frosted Heights, you will need to have previously unlocked The Forest of Valor for 3,000 Dreamlight.

You can find The Frosted Heights entrance at the back of The Forest of Valor, and spend a hefty 10,000 Dreamlight to open the biome.

Once you have Elsa and the biome available, you are ready to get started on The Great Blizzard quest.

The Great Blizzard Quest Walkthrough

The Great Blizzard comes with a, you guessed it, blizzard. You will be met with a cutscene of the snowstorm overtaking The Frosted Heights, and be directed to Merlin for more information.

Merlin tells you that the blizzard is too extreme to be a natural occurrence, and there must be Dark Magic behind it – which is where you come in.

Merlin will ask you to locate the source of the blizzard, which happens to be a magical Pillar missing its orb in The Frosted Heights. You will need to find a mysterious door that is attached to a mountainside to progress further.

We’ve marked the mysterious door’s location for your convenience below:

After locating the door, interact with it to open it, and reveal a glowing entrance for you to step through. When you enter the Secret Chamber, you will immediately notice Olaf – but he’s not his usual self and is missing his nose, buttons, and arms.

Olaf will inform you that Scary Squirrels have stolen his nose and buttons, and that you have to get them back for him.

The Scary Squirrels can be found near the entrance of The Frosted Heights, and despite the snowy circumstances, they are pretty easy to spot. You will need to chase four squirrels total to get back his nose and buttons. Once you have the pieces back, return them to Olaf in the Secret Chamber.

Olaf will tell you he still needs his arms, and that they were holding on to the magic orb, but like all things to do with The Forgetting, he can’t remember where he lost them. Since you are in a frozen biome made of water, Olaf advises you to talk to Elsa who will know how to get memories from the water.

Elsa will tell you that you can use your Royal Watering Can to access the memories of water, and the first place you will do this is the Pillar near the entrance of the biome. You will use your Watering Can on the sparkling water particles you see at the base of the Pillar, and a frozen memory statue will emerge.

You will then return to Elsa and tell her what you saw, and she will tell you to reveal more memories from sparkling water particles that are in the Secret Chamber.

There are two more memories to find, one near the table in the front room of the chamber, and one near the Dark Portal at the back of the chamber. After watching the memory sequences, talk to Olaf.

Olaf will tell you that you need to reach into the portal to retrieve his arms, and the orb – you will need to find a book that will tell you how. There are multiple books scattered throughout the Secret Chamber, and you will find an image of the correct book, “So You Want To Open A Dark Portal”, below:

How to Make a Dreamlight Prism

Bring the book to Olaf, and he will tell you that you will need a Dreamlight Prism to fix the portal. The ingredients to make a Dreamlight Prism and where to find them are as follows:

  • 10 Glass
    • One glass can be crafted from 5 sand found digging on Dazzle Beach, and 1 coal. You will need 50 sand and 10 coal ores total. You can also find glass in the Wall-E realm.
  • 5 Purified Night Shard
    • Crafting recipe requires 1 Dream Shard and 5 Night Shards. If you are low on Night Shards, you can find them digging in the valley, clearing out Night Thorns, or you can craft 3 from 1 Onyx gemstone.
  • 3 Shattered Prism
    • The Shattered Prism pieces are found in the Secret Chamber’s front room.

After obtaining the ingredients, simply craft the Dreamlight Prism at your crafting bench, and then return to The Secret Chamber. You will place the Dreamlight Prism on the front-most pillar, which will unlock the gemstone puzzle of the Secret Chamber.

Secret Chamber Gemstone Puzzle Solution

The Gemstone Puzzle requires you to find the correct gemstones for the pillars leading to the Dark Portal entrance – You will need one of each gemstone. The pillars that are are glowing colors will tell you the gemstones they need if you interact with them: Red (Garnet), Blue (Aquamarine), and Yellow (Topaz).

There are three pillars that remain a mystery to solve. There doesn’t really seem to be any rhyme or reason to the gemstone puzzle, and its designed to keep you guessing. To save you some time, we’ve listed the required gemstones and where to find them below:

  • Amethyst
    • Frosted Heights
  • Emerald
    • Forest of Valor and Glade of Trust
  • Citrine
    • Sunlit Plateau and Glade of Trust

If you are mining for the sake of the quest, its good to note that the mining nodes will respawn every five minutes, providing you with a new opportunity to find the gemstone you’re after.

Once you have all of the gemstones, its time to place them. You will find the correct placement in the image below:

The correct gemstone placement according to color is:

  • Red: Garnet
  • Purple: Amethyst
  • Gold: Citrine
  • Blue: Aquamarine
  • Yellow: Topaz
  • Green: Emerald

You will now be asked to interact with and whisper one of your deepest fears into the portal. It doesn’t matter which fear you select, you will get the same outcome no matter what.

Following this action, a cutscene will take place where you bravely reach into the portal and retrieve Olaf’s arms holding the orb.

Return the arms to Olaf and he will give you a hug as thanks, which will activate the orb’s power. Finally, you will return the orb to the Pillar near the entrance of The Frosted Heights.

The hard part is now officially over, and you just have to return to Olaf one final time to complete the quest and welcome him to the Valley!  After completing The Great Blizzard, you will also find a Scary Squirrel companion in your wardrobe inventory.
