Mortal Kombat 1 Crossplay Details

Curious about Mortal Kombat 1 cross play? We break down what's been confirmed.

The fighting game genre has been basking this year and the next game to make its debut will be Mortal Kombat 1. Although we know that the fatality-filled fighter will be supported by rollback, there’s been a lingering question of whether players from different consoles will be able to play with each other. Here’s what we currently know about Mortal Kombat 1 crossplay.

Will Mortal Kombat 1 Have Crossplay?

As of right now, no one knows for sure if MK1 will support crossplay. Early on, we assumed that was the case since it was mentioned on the FAQ page. To be more specific, it said that NetherRealm was planning on “adding cross-play or cross-progression support” after the game launched.

This little tidbit was removed not too long after the webpage went live. We only know it was there at all thanks to some people taking quick screenshots. This could have been due to the slightly confusing wording, but its absence is now a glaring omission. A lack of mention on any retailer or game page has only led this to further becoming a burning question.

Adding to this is that both the MK1 online stress test and pre-order beta specified they wouldn’t support cross-platform play. The fact that they both mention this at all, instead of simply denying it in the general FAQ, would seem to imply that crossplay is still planned. That’s admittedly not the most concrete of evidence, though. We just have to chalk this up to unconfirmed for now.

Will Mortal Kombat 1 Crossplay Work on PC and Nintendo Switch?

Since crossplay is currently unconfirmed, we can’t say for sure if PC or Nintendo Switch will be included. Many players have been left feeling a little uncertain due to the previous game, Mortal Kombat 11, only supporting crossplay with the PlayStation and Xbox platforms.

With games like Street Fighter 6 and the upcoming Tekken 8 managing to have crossplay with consoles and PC, players are expecting the same to be achieved here. Our fingers are crossed that it’s implemented in this new entry and with even more platforms than its predecessor.

We’ll be updating this as soon as more information about Mortal Kombat 1 crossplay has been confirmed. For now, feel free to catch up on the latest gameplay news with our breakdown of the recent Kombat Kast.
