Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (TotK) — Hinox Boss Fight Guide

Here's our guide to help you beat a Hinox in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Hinox is a type of miniboss that you’ll find as you’re exploring the world of Hyrule. This huge, lumbering oaf can be difficult to beat and has many different types. However, they all have a particular weakness that makes them easier to bring down. When you do, you’ll be able to harvest certain parts, such as Hinox Guts. Here’s our guide to help you beat a Hinox boss in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

How to Beat Hinox in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

You’re likely to encounter several TotK Hinox minibosses during your travels. For instance, if you’re heading to the Lindor’s Brow Skyview Tower by way of Lookout Landing, then you should see one sleeping in the middle of Carok Bridge. Like most creatures, a Tears of the Kingdom Hinox will also spawn after a Bloodmoon Cycle.

Generally speaking, Hinox bosses tend to be sleep when you first spot them. This allows you to sneak by and avoid detection (you can do this by pressing the left thumbstick) or sneak attack them.

If you do want to fight a Hinox, you’ll need to be prepared. I suggest having an extra bow or two in your inventory and lots of arrows.

You’ll want to bring a bow and arrows because of your foe’s main weakness: its eye. When you land a shot directly in a Hinox’s eye, it will get stunned, allowing you to run up and strike it with your melee weapons.

Be forewarned, however, that a TotK Hinox also has powerful attacks. These include:

  • A regular melee smash.
  • A jumping ground pound.
  • A roll attack.

Hinox will attempt to cover its eye at times. When this occurs, you can try attaching a Fire Fruit to your arrow before shooting the grass around it. The flames will cause damage, distracting it for a while.

Other Ways to Defeat TotK Hinox

Alternatively, you could also make use of various devices, objects, and contraptions to defeat a TotK Hinox. The world is your playground, after all.

For example, a creative way to kill a Tears of the Kingdom Hinox has been making the rounds, which I thought was funny. It’s from YouTuber DeliciousTea, and it involves killing a Hinox with a penis-shaped rock contraption, all with the power of Recall.

But that’s the TL;DR on how to beat Hinox in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Just aim for its eye, stun it, and launch a flurry of melee attacks. Rinse and repeat — unless you want to get creative. Once you defeat a TotK Hinox, you’ll get some materials, including Hinox Guts.
