5 Best Community Maps for CS:GO in the Steam Workshop

1 of 7

The Counter-Strike series started off as a Half-Life mod, and has since become known for its own modding community.

From custom maps to weapon and character skins, many servers have made use of the community's talented modders for years.

Now, thanks to the Steam Workshop, downloading and using mods for the series' latest installment, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, is easier than ever. There are tons of maps available, and more being added every day.

Here are the top 5 that you can download right now.

1. de_fire

If you were a compettive player in Counter-Strike: Source, you'll have memories of de_cpl_fire.

Whether they are fond memories or not, you'll be sure to appreciate this remake of the old classic for the new game.

It has some added and reworked features, including an abandoned basketball court. But it keeps the classic bomb-defusing spirit of Counter-Strike alive.

2. de_favela

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 players will remember this map.

In what amounts to pretty much a straight port of the original map into CS:GO, this maps shows incredible attention to detail and retains the balance and chokepoints from the original design.

It is definitely worth a subscribe and download, if only for nostalgia's sake.

3. de_mill_ce

From the same map maker that brought you the port of de_cpl_fire comes a port of de_cpl_mill. de_mill_ce shows the same attention to detail and intention to keep the old spirit of Counter-Strike alive that has always kept players coming back.

This remake, unlike the previous one, does not have any customization. But players seem absolutely fine with it, considering all of the people who've rated it highly on the Steam Workshop.

4. de_ruins

This map is actually an original, and a good (if not great) one at that.

de_ruins has typical bomb defusal map setup, with three main choke points, but connects the from the middle a little differently than others, connecting the middle multiples way with the main path to B for terrorists.

It may take a while to get used to, but it is a very fun map and has a lot of great lighting effects to go with a great map design.

5. cs_minecraft_landscape

The first four maps were typical Counter-Strike maps, with the main focus being on the game's main game mode, bomb defusal, but this map could not be more different.

A deathmatch-based map with 50 spawn points can make for a hectic and fun time, especially when the map maker has done a tremendous job making it look like you are running around fragging in the world of Minecraft.

These are currently the best five maps that you can download from the Steam Workshop, but there are always more being added every day, so we'll keep an out for any new ones that pop up.

Until then, happy fragging!
