Shovel Knight by Yacht Club Games first debuted way back in 2014 and quickly became the mascot of indie gaming. Five years later, the last installment in the saga, King of Cards, is set for launch on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch on December 10.
King of Cards was the last in the set of fan-voted games expanding the Shovel Knight universe, following Plague of Shadows and Specter of Torment. It follows, well, the King of Cards, the brash, lovable villain whose head-bash is as much his signature as his flair for gold and pomposity.
King of Cards sees you travel across multiple stages as the King, gathering gold, weapons, armor, and more, but it also includes a boss rush mode and a tactical card game to shake up the formula that’s been established across the previous three games.
King of Cards will be part of the Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove compilation, the physical version of which is releasing on December 10 too, alongside the Shovel Knight Gold Amiibo. There is one catch, though. Manufacturing issues have delayed the PlayStation 4 version of Treasure Trove until sometime in 2020.
If that weren’t enough, Shovel Knight Showdown is also launching on December 10. Though the name suggests it’s a fighting variant of the Shovel Knight formula, Showdown will actually include a singleplayer mode, multiplayer gameplay, new levels, and new characters.
