Popular Diep.io clone Tank.io removed from iTunes and Google Play
If you're looking for Diep.io clone Tank.io on Google Play or iTunes based on word of mouth, I've got some bad news for you: The game has been removed from both the Play Store and iTunes.
Tank.io is no longer available for download on either platform, meaning no new players can get their hands on it--but anyone who has already downloaded the game can still play it.
Like Slither.io and Agar.io before it, free to play browser game Diep.io has been victim to dozens of clones on both mobile stores. While Slither.io and Agar.io themselves have mobile versions, Diep.io has yet to get the mobile treatment. The game itself is still stuck on PC browsers.
Predatory clones and Diep.io's mobile future
Even if Tank.io has been knocked off Google Play and iTunes there are still at least a dozen clones to be found, especially on Google Play. But one thing to consider is not all of these games are necessarily "friendly".
One such example lies in one release from last week so originally named "Tanks.io" that would send popup ads to users' homescreens. This was revealed by users on the Android Gaming subreddit and the game itself was promptly removed from Google Play.
But this is only one game of many, and there are plenty of predatory companies sneaking these things in clone games to prey on naive users. My best advice to you is to not install clone games, but if you have trouble helping yourself then be sure not to install any that have been uploaded to Google Play within the past 2 or 3 days.
The Diep.io developer is currently moving so there have been no updates to the game in five days as of today, but we do know the mobile version is not quite on the way yet as they have stated not to get excited about a big update.
It's best to be patient and wait for an official Diep.io mobile release instead of downloading potentially malicious apps. Let the above "Tanks.io" example be a warning to be careful with your downloads.
