Demon's Souls is a PS5 Launch Game, Announced with Gameplay Trailer

We get a fresh look at the Demon's Souls remake, and learn when it will launch and how much it will cost.

After 11 long, agonizing years, the much pleaded for Demon's Souls remake is just around the corner. Though the game was first unveiled back in June during Sony's PlayStation Future of Gaming event, it wasn't clear if the grim-dark RPG that started the Souls craze would launch with the PS5 on November 12.

Though Demon's Souls was rated by Korea's Game Rating and Administration Committee in August, leading many to believe that it would be a PS5 launch title, there was no confirmation at the time.

Now we know that it will launch exclusively alongside the next-gen system this winter. It will cost $69.99.

The announcement comes alongside a 4:28 gameplay trailer showing off the beautiful job Bluepoint Games has done recreating the atmospheric world of Boletaria.

The original trailer shown during the latest PS5 event said that Demon's Souls would also come to PC, and hinted that it would be a timed exclusive to the next-generation console. However, per Kotaku, Sony has since said that is not the case, and they have pulled down the stand-alone trailer.

The video below should start roughly where Demon's Souls was shown during the showcase, but if not, it starts at 34:50.

Gavin Moore, Creative Director at SIE Worldwide Studios External Development, said on the PlayStation Blog that the team has worked hard to recreate the classic experience of the original game, while also making modern tweaks for greater accessibility.

We have been working diligently for almost three years on the legend that is Demon’s Souls. Together with the masters of the remaster Bluepoint Games, we have lovingly crafted this thrilling experience to bring it to stunning new life on PlayStation 5...

It was essential to us that we recreated Demon’s Souls in such a way that longtime fans are transported back to the Boletaria they love. It’s the Boletaria that has been growing and maturing in their imaginations for over a decade. A place where every room, corner, and corridor has a story to tell. Here, the original characters, encounters and battles are brought to life in greater fidelity, making the story even richer and darker.

While it's little surprise that some changes will be made to the game, it appears that Bluepoint has, in fact, stayed faithful to the original game, as all of the requisite parts of that experience appear present.

Classic bosses, such as the Tower Knight, the Flamelurker, the Armor Spider, the Red Dragon, and the Vanguard, make appearances alongside enemies like the Reaper and the Blue Eye Knight. That's alongside the return of the Nexus, the Boletarian Palace, Stonfang Tunnel, and more.

The trailer also shows off the PS5's super-fast SSD, eliminating loading times between fogs gates and area transitions.

Demon's Souls initially launched in 2009 for the PlayStation 3. Over the years, fans have reimagined the game as a Game Boy Classic title and toiled over emulating it on the PC through the RPCS3 PS3 emulator. As of 2019, fans created a patch that allowed Demon's Souls to run at 4K 60fps on the platform

Bluepoint Games has previously worked on games such as Shadow of the Colossus, Gravity Rush, and Uncharted 2
