Bethesda Never Wanted The Elder Scrolls: Online on Consoles

Originally Bethesda wasn't planning to put the Elder Scrolls: Online on consoles. Sony got them to change their minds!

The upcoming and highly anticipated Elder Scrolls MMO was  not origininally planned to be a console title. According to Adam Boyes, VP of public and developer relations at Sony Computer Entertainment America, Sony had to fight with Bethesda to get a console version.

“That game was never planned to come to consoles,” Boyes was quoted as saying.  “And we just kind of kept sitting with [Bethesda] and being like, ‘Why not?'”

“They’re like, ‘We’re not planning it,'” Boyes said “And I’m like, ‘Well, what if we built a plan that we could do that?'”

So I guess you can thank Sony for The Elder Scrolls Online having console versions.

In the end it doesn’t really matter who was responsible for the change of heart from Bethesda.

What matters is that now you can spend a bajillion hours recreating Serverus Snape

The Elder Scrolls Online will feature a $15 monthly subscription fee on top of Xbox Live and Playstation Plus although Bethesda is allegedly trying to get Microsoft to ditch the Live requirement for The Elder Scrolls.

I’m just glad I’ll finally be able to play with my friends.
