Which Will Generate More Hype: Advanced Warfare or Halo 5?

Two of the biggest shooters in history have been announced, but which will generate the most hype overall?

Both games are now official and gamers everywhere are discussing them in great detail.

Obviously, as time goes on, we’ll see and learn more about Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare and Halo 5; E3 is just around the corner, for instance, and when the holidays start knocking on the door…

Yeah, we all know what’s going to happen. The question is, when each title launches, which will have received the most hype, the most headlines, the highest expectations?

Let’s consider, shall we?

Well, Halo 5 has more time

As the new Guardians won’t be available until fall of next year, this one obviously has more time to accumulate hype and expectations. It also has more time to run into potential pitfalls but really, how many pitfalls can there be with such a game? A delay is probably the worst thing that can happen to it; chances are, everything the fans hear about this new title will go over well. Microsoft knows how to promote this franchise.

The interesting part is that the addition of time causes those expectations to go through the roof. Sure, we’ll be talking about Advanced Warfare all year, but if we get another year to talk about Halo 5, our anticipation levels will be sky-high. That can be problematic at times…but that’s not the question here.

Maybe the biggest hype will surround the game with the most to prove

Of course, even if this is the case, there will be arguments as to which title has the most to prove.

One could easily say Halo 5, even though the last entry wasn’t received badly at all. One thing to remember is that even die-hard fans of the series have admitted that Halo needs a refreshing injection of innovation. On top of which, we’re talking about the first Halo in a new generation and it’s an exclusive title. It has to do battle against games like Uncharted 4 and any other PlayStation 4 exclusives that will be on the market by fall 2015. Therefore, it will have a ton of pressure upon its admittedly broad shoulders.

Then again, all one has to do is examine last year’s lukewarm reception for Call of Duty: Ghosts to conclude that Advanced Warfare has the most to prove. It’s also the first franchise entry in a new generation (even if it’s not exclusive), and we’ve got a brand new developer at the helm. Everyone is wondering if Sledgehammer Games has the chops to pull it off and thus far, we have every right to be encouraged. Correct?

Well, it all depends on how you look at it, I guess.

Which DESERVES more attention?

This is an even more interesting question in my eyes. Which game deserves to have the most hype? Which one deserves the most headlines and the most topic threads in a forum? It would have to be the game that is decidedly more interesting to its fanbase, right? But how can you possibly determine that?

Maybe it’s best to look at it from an objective viewpoint: Each game is a shooter and as such, it has something to prove to the entire industry; i.e., that the standard shooter formula isn’t outdated. Many have been calling for more innovation in this particular genre, so perhaps it’s incumbent upon both titles in question to step forward. And in this way, both need to be in the spotlight plenty.
