You know, I not really sure what your after or weather any of these positions are really for me, I am a bit of a Playstation nut. From gaming to gossip to dismantling and repairing, and with my PS4 currently sitting in my local Game store, waiting for me to pick up on the 29th I am excited to be excited all over again about the next gen of Playstation.. I hope GamerSkinny grows and grows, its nice to see a website were females are more evident, as us guys kinda hog the gaming scene, even though there are a lots of female gamers out there. Oh dear I have went off on one again, must stop that. zzzzzzzzzzzzz <click>

Man oxford commas are years of hard work and dedication but would absolutely be worth it to write about video games for a living !

Isn't the Oxford Comma referring to only one specific usage of the comma? As in the other name for it being the serial comma?

Even if you don't have much confidence, it can't hurt to apply for one of these positions! The editorial team is A+, and those looking to make a break in the games journo industry couldn't find a better starting place to get some relevant work experience and samples for their portfolio.

Come, newcomers! Make some money and get experience! You know you want to.

(Edit: I just wanted to mention you will be obtaining experience not only in games journalism, but also search engine optimization.)

You have my attention now. I figured I didn't have the experience.

    OXFORD COMMA FTW!

This is the reason that I am here. Every job I looked at requires experience. Every thing I could think of required a job to gain that experience, until here. When you want a dedicated tabletop columnist, let me know!

Man, what I wouldn't give for a dedicated tabletop columnist. A friend of mine looks at the site like once a week and comments on how empty our tabletop section is to make me feel bad.

Here's to hoping we have an open position for that soon!
  • GabrielKross

I have mentioned that about Tabletop a few times as well. It just doesn't get the traffic though I tried a few tabletop articles and just couldn't get any views from them.
  • Ashley SSS
    Associate Editor
That's the trick about it, innit. Tabletop players are really passionate, but the fact of the matter is the only thing they're really Googling is dice rollers, map generators, and .pdfs.

I think having the content itself is really nice, but when it comes down to numbers it unfortunately isn't valuable money-wise.
  • GabrielKross

Yeah. I think because there are so many different table top games out there and each game caters to a small number of people unless you have someone that can cover all games with sufficient knowledge base, it's a waste
  • Landon Sommer

I think tabletop becomes more of a niche following. If I built a following just for Warmachine, I could probably get some views in the long haul, but a little Warmachine here, a new board game there, and a painting tutorial here, just won't work the same way it does with video games, I think.
  • GabrielKross

I'd recommend if you were going to do it to focus on one section of the tabletop community tbh. There would never be anyone that can cover all tabletop adequately I just threw it out there. Tabletop gaming takes alot of money. I've sunk a few thousand into Warhammer 40k over the years. I could still only tell you about Grey Knights, Space Marines, and Chaos with any accuracy.

This sort of thing is exactly why we created GameSkinny. Yes, we're a business so we encourage content that draws visitors and interest. However, we built an open platform with editorial oversight so that any niche could be represented by passionate community members.

This is not a community where we say "you can't write about that". This is a community where you can build and grow a niche interest without doing it in a vaccuum as you would probably do if you created your own blog.

As a company we have to make business decisions about what we directly fund, but I would love the opportunity to hire a dedicated passionate writer who showed they created interest in an area that we didn't have on our radar or that is typically overlooked. That would be a total, and complete, win for everyone.

Next time your friend complains about how empty the tabletop section is, tell them they have the power to change that. ;)
  • Ashley SSS
    Associate Editor
That is much easier said than done! He complains, then says "Well, if I write it will you publish it for me on your account?" Nah, man. The way I write is completely different, it wouldn't fly. He just needs to get the gall, I guess.
  • Landon Sommer
    Columnist
I'm doing my best to make this happen. I've had some success with some and failures with others, but I do feel like I'm getting somewhere. When the time comes, keep me on your radar!
  • GabrielKross
    Featured Columnist
actually I went back to take a look at my old 40k stuff and it seems my overview post and my basic painting guide both have picked up quite a few views. sure it's just a couple views a day, but over time it adds up.
  • Landon Sommer
    Columnist
I'm not a pro painter, but I do consider myself an excellent "assembler" of broken or poorly molded models. I'd like to start doing some assembly guides for Warmachine models that are a little tough.

Woah. These are amazing opportunities for five lucky and dedicated people :) I'll be monitoring the MMO and Xbox writers closely. Those two positions are my eventual goal, just need to get my writing up to standard.

Best of luck to everyone who applies!

I have to say I've only been writing articles for a week here... but when its this fun it doesn't even feel like work. I really believe in what Gameskinny is doing here and I definitely want to help it grow.

Wow, this is amazing. It's so good to see the community expanding this fast! I can't wait to see some of the new content.

Hopefully, I'll get to this level someday soon! :)

Ufff! I hope to be able to fulfill these sort of positions soon, by now I do believe that I'm just growing slowly in the community, which is all good...for now! But I'll be sure to keep checking on these sort of opportunities and obviously bringing some more articles to the site.

Glad to see Gameskinny growing. I wish I could handle the workload due to my current 8-5 gig, so I guess I will have to be satisfied with the occasional feature.
  • Ashley SSS

This makes me sad. :( I was actually hoping you'd be one of the applicants. Despite that one negative comment a few months back (I'm a big grumpy grump), I generally enjoy your work. It's good stuff.

C'est la vie, though. Can't help one's circumstances. Maybe one day!

    - very kind, luv. Not that I wouldn't mind the extra booty. Would articles have been assigned?
  • Ashley SSS

That is something I'm not sure about, since I'm keeping myself out of the hiring process and it appears Amy is out for the weekend. I'll try to find out on Monday.

I'm really glad Gameskinny is growing this fast. It makes me more excited to be part of this awesome community.
Also makes that "fire in my belly" burn a little stronger knowing I might one day work with you guys on that level.
Mid-air high five! And good luck.
