What is the Shiny Charm and How do I get it?

The Shiny Charm is a key item that you can get in-game that triples your chances to run into a shiny Pokemon. This takes the rate from 1/4096 to 1/1365. It also stacks with other methods of increasing shiny odds, such as the Masuda Method.

The Masuda Method, which is breeding Pokemon from different regions in the real world, increases the chances by 6 times the normal rate. This means you can get the chance down to 1/228, a huge increase from 1/4096.

You are probably wondering to yourself, “This is great and all, but how do I get this magical item?” Well, that’s the hard part. You must complete the Alola Pokedex before you can get the Shiny Charm.

The good news is, this does not mean you have to catch every Pokemon that exists, only those listed in the Alola Pokedex. This also excludes mythical Pokemon that you may not be able to get. Just look in your Pokedex, and you can see which Pokemon you still need to catch.

Getting the Shiny Charm

Once you have captured every Pokemon in the Alola Pokedex, go to the game director in the Game Freak Office in Heehea City. This is on the second island, Akala.

The building is 3 doors to the right of the Pokemon Center and the office is on the second floor. The director is the guy with a backpack in the back of the room.

When you talk to him after completing the Pokedex, he will congratulate you and give you the Shiny Charm. Since it is a key item, you don’t have to worry about using it. Just enjoy your higher chance to see shinies!
