An unforgettable journey in a savage world – The Last of Us: Remastered Review

For me The Last of Us: Remastered is the best action-adventure survival game released so far

The Last of Us Remastered is a third person survival action-adventure game developed by Naughty Dog and published by Sony Computer Entertainmet. The game was first released for PlayStation 3 in 2013, and later re-released for PlayStation 4 in 2014 as The Last of Us: Remastered which improved the game's graphics and bundled it with all DLC packs.

The Story

The game takes place in the United States, where an infection transformed the population into zombi-like monsters known as the Infected. The main characters are Joel, a middle-aged man his companion -- and a teenage girl named Ellie. Joel and Ellie are very well written, for me they are between the best videogame characters, so I think everyone will love them.

The Last of Us tells the story of Ellie and Joel's journey through the United States. There are four chapters, one for every season -- which I think is brilliant. My favorite season is Winter which chapter is a really sad one.

On their journey Joel and Ellie meet a lot of interesting characters and it’s nice to see that they are very well made. For me it’s very interesting to see how other people try to survive this cruel world. Everyone has their own motives and own back story. Everyone has lost someone -- their family, their old life. Naughty Dog developed a very rich back story and made a very believable post apocalyptic world.

There is a lot of sorrow and sadness in this world and there are plenty of twists in this gerat story. There are moments that are not really easy to swallow but it just makes the story more belivable. For me this is the strongest part of the game

As I sad before Joel and Ellie travel through the United States in a year-long journey. This is a really creative way to organize chapters in game. The levels are very enjoyable, they aren’t repetitive.

The gameplay is of the normal action-adventure survival variety. You have to kill monsters and survivors and collect things to survive. It may be a bit repetitive and the gunplay is not the best, but the controls are good and the animation is fluid.

There are collectibles so the collectors among you will like this game. The trophies are a bit hard to obtain and there are a lot that can only be obtained playing the multiplayer, so it will take some time to get all of them.

The game takes around 15-20 hours to finish which is enough for a single player adventure game. As stated, there is multiplayer but as I haven’t played it a lot I wont review it.

Graphics, Sound & Music

The graphics of the PlayStation 3 version are really good but the PlayStation 4 version looks much better. The whole world looks really nice, the characters are realistic. You can see the emotions on the faces of the main and the side characters.

The music and the sounds are really good. Great voice actors add to the quality of the main characters.

All in all graphics, sounds, and music make a living, breathing world with the real feeling of danger and suspense, sorrow and sadness.

The Last of Us: Remastered is a one of a kind game. The story and the gameplay make a perfect pair. The Last of Us Remastered has the Left Behind DLC with it which adds to it with a  really nice single player story.

I really love this game it is a good example of how next generation games should be made. Believe me, it’s an adventure you will never forget.

+ nice graphics

+ great story

+ likeable characters

+ diverse world

+ emotions

- fairly simple gameplay

All in all the PS3 and the PS4 version both deserves a 10/10.

If you like survival adventure games this is a must have for PS3 or PS4.
