Disney Lays Off 50 More After Closing Junction Point

Yesterday, Disney followed up its closing of Junction Point Studios with some major layoffs.

Yesterday, Disney closed Junction Point Studios, a developer it acquired in Austin, Texas, and ended all positions at the company. This developer is well known for its creation of Epic Mickey series and has been a part of Disney Interactive since 2007.

However, that wasn’t the end of the clean up operation Disney was executing–50 more unfortunate staff members were laid off after JP was shut down. According to a source, Disney commented on its challenges in the gaming industry in the lay-off notice it sent out.

“Our division operates in a rapidly evolving industry and as a result we must sometimes make difficult decisions to ensure we’re meeting market demands. Unfortunately, today this meant announcing changes within Disney Interactive Games, including the closure of Junction Point Studios in Austin[…] These decisions are never easy, or taken without serious thought and consideration, but they are essential in order for Disney Interactive to remain competitive and win.”

Warren Spector, co-founder of Junction Point, is separating from Disney completely and seems excited about the future, though he has no plans. “Now it’s time to move on to the next adventure. I honestly don’t know what that will be yet, so don’t ask.”
