Team SoloMid Parts Ways with Sports Psychologist Weldon Green

Today, Team SoloMid decided to mutually part ways with their in-house sports psychologist, Weldon Green.

Weldon worked very closely with TSM’s League of Legends’ roster, helping “develop our players as competitors and manage internal relations within the team.”

But Why Did TSM Let Green Go?

The reasons for the separation were officially mentioned by TSM as follows:

We found that working with him in short periods of time proved to be more effective and will instead continue to consult and work with him for bootcamps.

The announcement on tsm.gg also took time to explain a few things surrounding controversial Reddit comments that Weldon posted just after TSM’s disappointing exit of the 2016 World Championships.

We would also like to take this opportunity to clarify some statements that arose during this year’s Worlds. Team SoloMid as an organization has always valued our bootcamps leading up to worlds in Korea, and we have always been extremely grateful to the top Korean teams that choose to scrim with us. These scrims have traditionally been some of the best practice our team gets in the competitive season, and we always learn a great deal during these bootcamps. To shed further light on this topic, Samsung White in Season 4 was our primary scrim partner throughout Worlds, and they played a huge factor in our tournament run that year.

Consequently, the controversial comments (seen below) that Weldon made on the r/leagueoflegends subreddit could have had a massive impact on him leaving the TSM team.

A New Recruit

Despite committing to having Weldon consult with them on special projects, TSM has announced that they are looking to hire a new sports psychologist that would take over Weldon’s former position.

Putting all of the drama aside, Weldon Green had a large impact during his time with TSM, going 18-1 during the 2016 NA LCS Summer Split.

I’m sure that he’ll get picked up by another pro esports team and find success elsewhere.
