Doom 64’s Brutal Gameplay Trailer Dishes a Hefty Dose of Ultra Violence

Times change. Doom is Eternal.

The 64-bit gates of Hell have opened, unleashing upon the world the first dedicated gameplay trailer for Doom 64. Though we’ve known about the game for a few months now, the latest trailer provides us the best look yet at the game’s ultra-violent carnage.

In it, Doomguy mercilessly plows through the hordes of hell using a plethora of devastating weapons, both old and new. Giblets explode in all directions. Lasers and rockets cut through the roiling darkness to devastate demonic foes. The screams of hellspawn fill winding, infernal corridors and halls. It’s Doom. And it’s glorious.

Originally slated to release for the Nintendo Switch on November 22, Doom 64 will now release on March 20, 2020, for that platform as well as the PC, PS4, and Xbox One. It is free to those who pre-order the upcoming Doom Eternal, which was also delayed to March 20, 2020.

Though it’s a safe bet Bethesda will sell the game separately, there is currently no official confirmation from the developer if it will be.

Doom 64 was, as the name would imply, first released on the Nintendo 64 in 1997. Developed by Midway, the game has never been officially re-released, though a fan project recreated the game for PC.
