OUYA Receives Awful Review Score

The OUYA, the first console to be funded by Kickstarter, gets it's first major review. And it's none too good.

What’s in an OUYA

Well, for a name, it’s hilarious. But the OUYA is a console funded by Kickstarter, a popular site used for crowd-funding new ideas and products. Hailed as a new console that would be great for iOS, android, and even some big name games, I never got too interested in it myself. With the lackluster iOS library and the system specs for the console, I just figured it to be a better bet to stick with my PC and move on.

Apparently, this may have been a wise decision.

So, the OUYA devs are sending out the consoles to their Kickstarter supporters, and the Editor-in-Chief of the popular website The Verge, received his. Verge journalist David Pierce put out his review today, and I was surprised. Three and a half out of ten? I wasn’t expecting 10/10s everywhere I looked, but for having received almost ten million dollars during it’s Kickstarter campaign I was not expecting it to score so low.

The main down points of the OUYA console were a limited and very lackluster selection of games for it’s library, as well as a slapdash interface. Another huge complaint David had was with the controller. Apparently the button layout seemed a little off, and the controller’s input felt laggy to some degree.

I’m pretty sure this will hurt the community’s faith in the console, but I’m not sure how it will turn out. Will the OUYA crash and burn with the next generation of consoles on the way? Or will it manage to rally, given it’s open source platform? Only time will tell, but I’m leaning towards the former being more likely myself.
