ESO Devs Puzzle Out Lore With Your Help (Beware: Heavy Lore Discussion Herein)

This week, the Elder Scroll Online Developers pose the most baffling question that has ever been asked: what happened to the Dwemer?

For the past few months, Bethesda has been releasing weekly videos from the Elder Scrolls Online developers, posing interesting questions to players. These questions are typically along the lines of “what faction are you going to play?” and “what was your favorite bad idea that a character’s had?”

This week, they stepped it up a with literally the most baffling question that has ever been posed regarding Elder Scrolls lore: Where did the Dwemer go?

Well… here’s what happened:

In lore, the Dwemer settled deep into the mountains of Morrowind. The Falmer, crippled by their genocidal war with the Nords, fled into these mountains and encountered the Dwemer, who promptly enslaved the entire race. After many long years of servitude, the Falmer rebelled and initiated war against the Dwemer, but when they were all ready to fight, the Dwemer had vanished.

And… that’s pretty much where the lore stops.

People reckon that the Falmer wiped out the entire Dwemer race in their coup. This is a fairly incongruous answer, as we also know that the High Priest of Dwemer set together a Crux of Transcendence that could, essentially, remove the Dwemer from the current timeline.

I reckon, however, that the Dwemer did succeed in their transcendence, and with a tiny pop, disappeared entirely from the world. Since the developers are investigating their story now, I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see them show up again in, you know… the space/time continuum.

The thing is, none of this has ever, ever been confirmed by Bethesda. Whenever the Dwemer come up in topic, I imagine developers smile mysteriously to each other and have a few hearty cackles.

I’m not entirely sure if Betheda’s asking this question because they want an answer, or want to give you an answer. The way this video series is being handled, however, seems to suggest that any theories won’t actual receive responses from the developers.

It looks like we’ll have to wait until The Elder Scrolls Online is live to see if there’s any reason behind this madness.
