Titanfall Generates 96 Percent Leap in UK Xbox One Sales

Looks like Respawn Entertainment's well-received shooter is a definite boon for the Xbox One.

Just recently, I asked an important question: Did the release of Titanfall convince you to purchase an Xbox One?

Well, for many, the answer was most certainly “yes.”

According to a new MCV report, not only did Respawn Entertainment’s hotly anticipated title top the UK’s software charts, it also caused Xbox One hardware sales to leap by nearly 100 percent (96 percent, to be precise).

In fact, 70 percent of all Xbox One units sold last week came bundled with Titanfall, so says Chart-Track. For Electronic Arts, this is the first game not named FIFA that has topped the UK charts in a year. The last title to hold the top slot in that region was Crysis 3 back in March of 2013.

The ultra-challenging but extremely well-received Dark Souls II debuted at #2, while the hilarious South Park: The Stick of Truth came in at #3. The LEGO Movie Videogame and Thief (which has met with considerably less acclaim than anticipated) rounded out the top 5 for the week.

It’s just one week, but it’s significant

Titanfall really needed to hit big for the Xbox One. The PlayStation 4 is absolutely dominating Microsoft’s machine in Europe (at least, that’s what all accumulated evidence currently indicates), even though the Xbox One staged a comeback in the US in February. Titanfall needed to tell people: yes, you need the new system. Who wants to play that game on the 360, anyway? 😉
