Have you ever imagined what a 2D version of Dark Souls would look like? Well, look no further, my friend; indie developer Connor Ullmann is working on such a game, and it is ominously called Oblitus. A dead word from a dead language, Oblitus is latin for forgotten, disregarded, or neglected.
In Oblitus, you play as a small spear-wielding creature named Parvus–another latin word meaning small, cheap, or unimportant–who is on a journey of self discovery. Parvus wishes to find out where he comes from and what his purpose is in life. But Parvus must travel through a dangerous land filled with gigantic monsters to answer the questions he asks.
Although Oblitus is still in the pre-alpha stages of development, the art style and gameplay look fantastic. I am really enjoying the dark yet colorful environments; they really seem to pop out. The gameplay is similar to any roguelike game, but be wary, for the difficulty is up to 11.
Another aspect of Oblitus that is exciting is the storytelling. Far from the traditional NPC-filled narratives, the story is implicitly told through the environment, exploring and the actions of Parvus.
Sadly there is no release date scheduled for Oblitus, but expect it to come out on PC eventually.
