Princess Peach: Showtime! Ditches Terrible Mood Swing Mechanic for Something Much More Empowering

Take center stage with Princess Peach and her new powers!

In 2005, Super Princess Peach reversed the usual roles of Mario games and gave Peach the task of saving Mario. Now, nearly two decades later, we get to see her take center stage once again. But this time, Princess Peach: Showtime! ditches the terrible mood swings mechanic for something much more empowering.

Princess Peach: Showtime! Brings Empowerment in the Place of Mood Swing Mechanics

I’ve always loved Peach and played her as often as possible in games. So, when Super Princess Peach released, I was thrilled to play it. However, it relied on the power of Peach’s mood swings to solve puzzles and progress. This means you might need to become sad and water a flower with tears for it to grow and become a platform for you. But that’s no longer the case with Princess Peach: Showtime!

Instead of mood swings, Princess Peach fights the Sour Bunch using transformations that each give her unique abilities that she needs to use in order to save Sparkle Theater. While we certainly haven’t seen every transformation that will be included, some have already been revealed. They include Detective Peach, Cowgirl Peach, Kung Fu Peach, Ninja Peach, Mermaid Peach, Mighty Peach, and more. Even just looking at the partial list of transformations gives me hope that this is the game that I wanted back in 2005.

With this array of transformations, we already see that Peach will have a more active role than ever before. And this time, her abilities aren’t based on emotions. Instead, she shows off her strength and talents to turn her into a character who’s much more than the damsel in distress that she has typically ended up as in the titular plumber’s various outings over the decades.

As Princess Peach: Showtime! ditches the terrible mood swings mechanic for something much more empowering, I am excited for what could be next for her. The art style shows a lot of inspiration from the Super Mario Bros. movies, but on the whole, this is a great change for anybody who looks up to Peach, like I did as a child.
