Recappers: The Week That Was-Nintendo

Check out the week that was for Nintendo.

Welcome to another installment of Recappers, the place where I recap the week that was for video games, specifically Nintendo. It was a busy week for the Big N with some good news and some bad news. Let’s get right into it seeing as though there is a lot to cover.

It was announced earlier in the week that Nintendo was ending Club Nintendo, the rewards program for fans. For those who didn’t know, Nintendo games would come packaged with codes that players could register on the Club Nintendo web site to gain coins/stars or whatever monetary value your region was using. Fans would answer questions/surveys to gain points and market research for Nintendo. You could then turn around and spend those points on Nintendo merch and at the beginning of the program six years ago, there were more physical rewards than just game downloads. I thought it was neat to have things that other people might not have because they didn’t have the points.

The program lasted for six years and it didn’t feel that long. When I found out that Club Nintendo started six years ago, I was shocked. I would just like to thank Nintendo for doing Club Nintendo because I was able to experience things that I otherwise wouldn’t have been able to, like events at the Nintendo Store and the Wii U experience in New York City. There will be a new rewards program revealed later in the year from Nintendo and if I may make a suggestion, have more physical rewards like soundtracks and limited edition items so fans can have fun getting things no one else has.

In other news, Nintendo took their new baby, the New Nintendo 3DS, to PAX South in San Antonio, Texas this week. Fans of the Legend of Zelda will be in luck as Nintendo is showing off the Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D on the New 3DS. Majora’s Mask will have enhanced graphics and features on the New 3DS and 3D will be much easier to sustain with the much better facial recognition screen. You’ll be able to move your face and not have the 3D image be distorted like on the original 3DS.

Nintendo packed Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate in their overnight bag for the fans to experience. The added C stick will help both games seeing as though they both rely on precise camera work and the C stick will basically be the camera control for most games. Since this is the first PAX South, it was a good idea that Nintendo wanted to make a splash and have people remember what a good time they had at PAX South with Nintendo.

That’s gonna do it for this edition of Recappers. Tune in next week for the week that was for Nintendo. Let’s hope Nintendo brings out news about the up-and-coming games!
