Head of Xbox praises PlayStation’s Shuhei Yoshida for being an active gamer

Phil Spencer thinks the games industry would be better with more people like PlayStation's Shuhei Yoshida.

If you’re a fan of PlayStation (or even just a fan of video games in general) then you’ve probably heard of Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida, or @yosp as he’s known on Twitter. While many big gaming executives can seem oblivious and detached from the industry that they represent (see Don Mattrick), Yoshida is known for being passionately involved with the gaming community.

Earlier this month, PlayStation Underground released a video of Yoshida facing off against Bloodborne‘s Defiled Chalice dungeon, carefully dodging the Watchdog’s attacks with finesse. Recently, Microsoft Studios vice president Phil Spencer couldn’t help but recognize, reaching across the aisle to applaud Yoshida’s dedication.

And in case you’re not entirely sure the sentiment is genuine: when asked, Spencer made it a point to clarify his intentions.

What does this mean for Xbox and PlayStation? Not much, but for us as fans, maybe it means we could stand to lighten up on the rampant fanboyism and rabid rivalries. If the two people whose livelihoods depend on beating out each other as competition can give credit where credit is due, maybe we can do the same.
