It’s one of the most controversial games of all-time, and it released at the start of June this year. Hatred, by Destructive Creations, has a lot of eyes glaring at it, for its ruthless violence and graphic murder scenes. So is this really a bad game? Are all the video game ratings for it justified, or do reviewers and other people need to relax a bit.
What the Reviewers Think
There aren’t a lot of big named companies that approve of this game. IGN, Metacritic, Destructoid, Game Informer, and GameSpot all gave it in the negative scores. They’re not the only ones either. Many people who have viewed this game on YouTube or Amazon have also complained about this game, saying it is just a pointless game, where the sole objective is to just go out and kill as many people as you can.
They’re not wrong in what they’re saying either. That is the entire point to Hatred, to just go out and murder innocent people, whether they are male, female, or cops. It’s similar to other games in this aspect, like Grand Theft Auto, but in that game, there is actually a storyline, compelling characters, and other things you can do. You do not need to senselessly go out and murder people if you don’t want to (unless it’s a main mission).
But I’m Okay With It
This game is acceptable to me, and I don’t believe Hatred deserves all the hate it is getting. No, I don’t believe video games make people more violent, as some people believe. I also think you need to be an adult to play this game, and that parents need to better observe the maturity rating that the game is given. If this game makes you uncomfortable, you do not have to play it, but it is their right to produce such a game.
Ultimately in the end this game follows other games that were originally under a lot of scrutiny. Games like Mortal Kombat, Manhunt, and Postal faced unhappy critics, parents, and media scrutiny, but such things passed. Hatred released in June this year, and if you want to give it a try or have played the game, let me know what you think of it. I personally won’t be playing the game as it’s not something I’m interested in.
