Report: Nintendo NX expected to be revealed before E3, lauched by November

Reports from Japan claim Nintendo will be revealing the system as early as "Spring."

The rumours continue to build. A new report says that Nintendo may be revealing the “concept” sooner than we originally thought.

According to Nomura Securities analyst Junko Yamamura, Nintendo plans to unveil the NX sometime between March and May, followed by a full console reveal in June – presumably at E3, though whether or not Nintendo have a live show or a direct as usual, remains to be seen. Yamamura’s also claims that NX will launch in either October or November of this year, as was previously rumoured.

Yamamura suggests that the impending announcement of the NX will see Wii U and 3DS sales fall dramatically:

“We have lowered our estimates for current consoles to reflect the present situation, fiercer competition, and what has happened in the past when new hardware is announced.”

Last month it was reported that Nintendo expects to ship 20 million NX’s by the end of 2016, which we deemed quite the overestimation. Additionally, a controller patent appeared to be leaked, the front of which is comprised entirely of a touch screen, which can double as a second screen – much like a small Wii U GamePad. The patent by no means is the final design controller for the system, patents are frequent and rarely come to fruition, but it does give insight into Nintendo’s line of thinking.

Rumours and reports have been leaking about the NX ever since it was announced last year.

Nintendo just had a Direct that was focused entirely on Smash Bros., the last for that game, so the next is likely to be the reveal event for the NX. All things considered, the next Direct is likely to be in February, or March, given that the full reveal is set for June.

The NX has been long-rumoured to release this year, and the report from Yamamura also suggests at an October/November release, which makes the 20 million units shipped figure all the more ridiculous. Though it is important to keep in mind that these are all unconfirmed reports and conjecture, from some reputable source, however.

Whatever the NX is, and whatever Nintendo’s projections for it are, we should know much more in the coming weeks or months. It’s an exciting time for Nintendo, and for gamers in general, with a new console on the horizon, VR mere months away, and loads of great games.
