Development Changes in the Works for Final Fantasy 7 Remake

Square Enix recently announced a change to Final Fantasy 7 Remake's development.

During a recent Square Enix livestream event, it was revealed that the remake of Final Fantasy 7 will no longer be developed by CyberConnect2 but instead moved in-house and developed by a team at Square.

At the Mobius Final Fantasy livestream, it was revealed that the project lead for Mobius Final Fantasy,  Naoki Hamaguchi, will be taking a lead role in the development side of Final Fantasy 7. Furthermore, Hamaguchi expressed that he will not leave the Mobius team.

The rationale behind the decision centered around Square emphasizing a stable production schedule, as well as having complete control over the vision and direction of the FF7 Remake. Hamaguchi said:

I’ve taken over the development side of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Up until now, development has progressed by receiving external collaboration, but from here on out, with production and quality in mind, we’re shifting to our in-house organization. This company decision was made wanting to control quality as well as keeping the schedule stable.

Although a trailer for the FF7 Remake was released in 2015 and new screenshots of the game were released earlier this year, Square has note yet revealed a release date for the game.

I've been playing games since I was small but only started to really observe and critique a few years back. Been writing reviews for games (albeit, old games because not everyone can have a crazy fast rig). When I'm not writing about games, I generally do some photography as well, so check that out if you've got some time.
