Cosmetic microtransactions? In MY Diablo 4? It’s more likely than you think!

The game’s Lead Designer Joe Shely spoke about the upcoming ARPG with streamer Quin69, hinting that the game will be receiving microtransactions for cosmetics.

In answer to a question about whether the game will be buy-to-play, subscription-based, or have microtransactions, Shely mentioned the game will be available “as a base game,” but it will also have expansions and players will “be able to acquire cosmetics in the game.”

Responding to a follow-up question, Shely lightly confirmed Diablo 4 will have an in-game microtransaction shop. However, he also confirmed Blizzard will not sell in-game power items for real money.

Blizzard announced Diablo 4 over this past Blizzcon and have given the game a fair amount of attention during the convention.

Three classes the Barbarian, Druid, and Sorceress have been announced so far, as have PvP areas and the return of Diablo 2-style character customization via talent trees, rune words, and skill points. However, the game is also a long ways off from release and has been confirmed as requiring an internet connection at all times.

Diablo 4 looks to be a huge improvement over Diablo 3 from thematic, aesthetic, and gameplay-perspectives. Blizzard seemed to have learned their lesson with the last game, but we likely have a while yet until we get more details on this title since the release isn’t even “Blizzard soon”.

We’ll bring you more information on Diablo 4 here on GameSkinny as it’s released. Stay tuned.
