Xbox Series X Release Date Might Be Closer to Thanksgiving

A tweet from Geoff Keighley suggested the Xbox Series X might get moved forward — but was it an accident?

We got a lot of PlayStation 5 news today, but games industry personality Geoff Keighley let slip some potential Xbox Series X news as well. Keighly drew attention to the Xbox Series X website for a roughly half-hour window when it showed Microsoft’s next-gen console would be launching Thanksgiving 2020, and not holiday 2020 as Microsoft originally stated.

There was some confusion over whether the information was legitimate at first. The U.S. Microsoft site did show the information, as did a number of others like the U.K. site, the Irish one, and the India site.

After about thirty minutes, though, Keighley was back on Twitter and mentioned his sources said there were no changes to the anticipated Xbox Series X release date.

Not too long after, Xbox’s Director of Programming, Larry Hryb, said the information was just an error, and Xbox is committed to a holiday 2020 launch date.

However, a November Xbox Series X release date would make a lot of sense. Historically, Xbox systems release in November:

  • Xbox launch date: November 15, 2001
  • Xbox 360 launch date: November 22, 2005
  • Xbox One launch date: November 22, 2013

So, despite the reversal, we could very well see the Xbox Series X launch sometime around Thanksgiving 2020 after all.
