10 Scary Games for Your October (Halloween is Coming)

4 of 10

What makes a first-person survival game truly horrific? When you're 100% unable to fight back. I'm not asking for a gun, but even Gordon Freeman got a wrench.

In Outlast, developed by Red Barrells, you must navigate your way through a psychiatric hospital filled with homicidal patients with only a notebook and a video camera. This has solidified my opinion that seekers of found footage belong in psychiatric institutions, but I wouldn't wish the inmates of Mount Massive Asylum on anyone.

This IS a truely scary game. On Night 7,The Custom Night,The Hardest mode is 20/20/20/20. Freddy,Bonnie,Chica,And Foxy. If you dont close the right door before checking your cameras, freddy sneaks in(no matter what time it is,even in the beginning) and kill you just a little bit afterwards. Foxy becomes unpredictable. Bonnie and chica cna disable your doors and lights if theyre at your door for at least1-3 seconds. its hard. but its ben done.

Srsly, never ever suggest horror games anymore, Resident evil 4?!?!?!?! A MACHINE FOR PIGS? your taste for horror games is awful.
Siren, Deadly Premonition, Fatal Frame, Clock Tower, Killer7.

Clive Barker's Jericho is another good horror title. It's a psychological horror game and an FPS. it didn't get great reviews because of some issues with in-game mechanics, but the atmosphere and the enemies are absolutely terrifying.

That sounds very cool. Sometimes poor game mechanics can make something even more terrifying - I'm thinking of how hard a game like Resident Evil 1 was just because of the game mechanic limitations of its time.
