Batman: Arkham Evolution

Arkham Asylum and City side by side (Origins might be coming soon)
This article is over 11 years old and may contain outdated information

I loved Arkham Asylum when it fist came out; the fast paced action, the villains, and the gadgets. It was one of the best games I had ever played. Then its sequel came out, and I have been playing it ever since. I thought the Asylum was awesome, but the City just blew me away. The action got faster, the villains got smarter, and the gadgets multiplied. With Origins info being released in a few days,  I found that I wanted to compare the two games that had already come out, and list the pros and cons and determine which one is better.

The pros of the Asylum are few, but I think that they hold more weight than City.

  • The Triple Batarang: I loved this, being able to shoot three different inmates with ease.
  • The Ultra Batclaw: Again, 3 inmates, plus pulling down vent grates like it was nothing.
  • Scarecrow: I hated him at the time, but found myself missing him in City
  • The Predator Maps: I much preferred the predator maps of the asylum to city.
  • Joker

Now I will list City’s pros.

  • Freeze’s Freeze Blast: A good form of CrowdControl as long as another inmate didn’t come to the rescue.
  • RC Batarang: I know there was one in Asylum, but that one had a cooldown that took forever.
  • Reverse Batarang: An upgraded form of the RC Batarang that you get when you defeat Ra’s al Ghul.
  • Much Bigger Map
  • Many more missions and side missions
  • Catwoman
  • Robin
  • Nightwing

Origins looks the coolest of them all.

  • 3 times the map size
  • Remote Claw: A device that can force two people, or one person and an object to clash together and stunning or knocking out whoever it effects. It can also create a tightrope between two vantage points for batman to walk on.
  • Roger Craig Smith: The voice of Ezio Auditore de Firenze(Assassin’s Creed: 2, Brotherhood, and Revelations) as Batman.
  • Deathstroke as a playable character in the challenge maps.
  • Fast Travel

While Arkham City has a lot more bells and whistles, the Asylum will always have a cold, twisted place in my heart. Origins aspires to be the best in the series, but might fall short due to Rocksteady not making it.
