Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare Trailer: Not Sold Yet

It sure is nice to look at, but the general consensus is: Let's see some gameplay first.

Okay, so that new Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare trailer is out.

It’s awfully pretty and many have commended the impressive graphics. Others have also noticed what appears to be a Titanfall-like influence, which may or may not go over well with the long-time CoD fans.

After perusing the many comments associated with the release of this trailer, I think the general consensus is that while visually accomplished, many gamers still have reservations. After all, Ghosts didn’t exactly live up to expectations and as a result, the reputation of this series has taken another hit.

Can Advanced Warfare be the Modern Warfare of a new generation…?

They’re still trying to pretend that the narrative is important, huh?

I don’t really play multiplayer games much, so the single-player campaign is important to me, but I’m in the vast minority. Nobody is lining up at midnight on November 4 to grab the new Call of Duty because of the campaign. Nobody. I’m not saying nobody will play the campaign; I’m saying it runs a distant second to the multiplayer, which is what has made the franchise the most popular name in video games.

And yet, the developers continue to dump a huge amount of resources into the campaign. It’s a little weird. Like I said, I love it. It means I might actually want to play Advanced Warfare. But for the majority of followers, they admit that they don’t care in the slightest. Many don’t even bother with the campaign; they just jump right into the multiplayer. That’s the truth of the matter, and still we have what appears to be a flashy and perhaps even intriguing story.

What the heck, maybe it will be important to this production.

Not sure how you make this FPS formula fresh, but you gotta try

I’m not one of those people who blindly call for innovation in the FPS formula without offering some suggestions. All my suggestions would include added depth but if you do that, it’ll come out like Bioshock. That’s really not what the millions of fans want. I suppose the other option would be to include vehicles in the multiplayer, just like Battlefield, but that’s more of a subjective issue. Doesn’t necessarily make the experience better, I don’t think.

At the same time, I do want to see some gameplay from Advanced Warfare that intrigues me. Maybe some first-person action that isn’t related to firing a gun, or maybe even a puzzle or two. Yeah, I know, such things aren’t a part of the standard FPS experience but if you’re going to put an emphasis on the narrative, you have to at least try new things. It’ll make me more interested, that’s for sure.

We might be seeing brief glimpses of gameplay in that trailer and that might include some innovation, but I can’t be sure.

At least Kevin Spacey is in it

That’s almost enough to convince me right there. 😉
