The GameSkinny Roundtable Podcast had an extra special guest this week from Drinkbox Studios, the award winning developer that brought you Tales from Space: Mutant Blobs Attack and Guacamelee!
We (Gary, Ernesto, Jay, Brian, Lui, and Stephanie) were joined by game and level designer, Jason Canam, who spent the night with us discussing not only Drinkbox and their awesome games, but what goes on behind the scenes in developing video games.
Jason is a veteran in the game industry, and an old school gamer at heart, obsessed with not only Metroidvania free roam 2D platformers, but perfecting their speed runs. For him, working on Guacamelee! was a dream come true.
He was able to transfer his passion into something he knew had great potential. During the interview, he delved into how he worked on the Guacamelee! DLC El Diablo’s Domain, and how as a designer it was a fun challenge creating levels that not only furthered the story and tested the player’s ability, but pushed the game mechanics to their limits.
