Guild Wars 2 is a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game that was released in August of 2012. Since its release, Guild Wars 2 has received praise from both gamers and critics. It was named as the top video game of 2012 by Time Magazine. The editor of Time, Matt Peckham, said “Guild Wars 2 is one of those rare games that unexpectedly knocks your life off-kilter, like a meteoroid banging into a satellite”. He also commented that “Guild Wars 2 [has] the feel of a living world, and the sort of compulsive anywhere-you-go playability other MMOs only dream of.” It currently holds a score of 90 on the aggregate review site Metacritic and has sold over three million copies.

The storyline of Guild Wars 2 has received much praise from the gaming community. It changes and reacts to the choices each player makes, causing the experience each player has with the game to be unique. Storylines like this have been used many times in single player role-playing games such as Dragon Age and Mass Effect, but it is extremely rare to see ones that are so dynamic in a multiplayer game.

The game has been updated with new content every two weeks since its release.  This content has included new weapons, dungeons, story lines, combat options, and even an achievement system. All new content is completely free. Players are only required to pay an initial purchase price for the game. There are no subscription fees or micro transactions. This feature helped set the franchise apart from other online games when Guild Wars debuted back in 2005.

Overall, Guild Wars 2 is a role-playing game that all should try. With a wealth of new content constantly being released there is never a shortage of things to do.
