Guy Smashes Wii U, Sells its Sculptured Remains for $14,883

Art, ladies and gentlemen!

Let’s avoid the discussion on the definition of art — being as subjective as it is — and focus instead on this artist smashing a Wii U console to bits, turning it into a sculpture, and selling it on eBay for a whopping $14,883.

The video in the header, which is also found in the eBay listing, features artist Kenny Irwin turning the console on and beating it with a sledgehammer. It’s always difficult to watch game consoles get smashed to bits as a gamer, isn’t it? A little pang in your heart that you just can’t explain.

This is not the first time Irwin has destroyed a gaming system. He has also microwaved a Wii U and a Vita, similarly mashing their charred innards into sculptures and selling them. He seems to have a fascination with microwaving electronics, including microwaving a microwave. Really.

Remember, kids: Video games aren’t art, but decimating video game consoles and turning them into sculptures is.
