IdrA Apologizes, Looks to the Future

After being dropped from Evil Geniuses, IdrA apologizes, insists his attitude was a persona, and hopes to become an in-depth commentator.

After getting dropped from Evil Geniuses for his online comments to his fans last week, Greg “IdrA” Fields seems to have either had a huge change of heart or is finally coming clean about how he has always portrayed himself online.  The interview above shows him behaving with a significantly greater amount of maturity, self-control, and humility than he is famous for.

Fields’ take on the events leading to his dismissal from his team is an interesting perspective.  I tend to want to believe in people–the disappointment when people do not live up to what they could be is where much of my cynicism comes from.  The story Fields tells is entirely plausible, and I can definitely appreciate a lot of the stresses and issues he brings up.

For those who do not want to use the bandwidth above, the reason given for Fields’s overblown raging antics and commentary is to try and apply exaggeration.  According to him, he uses such hugely negative and aggressive comments towards other players specifically because they are so overblown he hopes people will not take the comments seriously.

The explanation is plausible, but would be more believable if he had ever said anything about it to any fans or other players prior to being removed from a team for a poorly-directed comment.

Speaking specifically in regards to the comment that resulted in his removal from Evil Geniuses, Fields gives a bit of background on the situation in the specific forum thread he was commenting on.  The comment, according to Fields, was not from a fan so much as someone trying to specifically poke at him, meaning it was basically a standard internet troll being a smarmy bastard.  Fields did not realize his comment had been such a big deal until the day before he was released.

Regardless of whether or not anyone believes Fields’s e-sports persona is as overblown as he claims, he did give a sincere apology to any of his fans who thought his comment was addressed to them.  He has seen a lot of people who follow e-sports specifically for the drama and to watch pros fail and fall, which I can understand making someone a bit angry at a lot of people.

Fields hopes to become a regular in-depth analysis commentator for e-sports, which honestly seems like a good idea.  Such would give him a chance to use his knowledge of the games and mechanics while keeping him out of the stressful limelight that made his negativity (real or put-on) such a constant danger.

Fields?  I do not know how much of this is admission and how much is realization, but good luck to you.

Just don’t tell anyone to get cancer anymore, okay?
