Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime is an interesting looking indie game. For the record, I am not typically a big fan of indie games in general, but the giant pink death star caught my attention pretty quick.
The game is created by Asteroid Base, a Toronto based indie game making collective that started out in 2011 at the Toronto Game Jam. Their first game was a beat-em-up ninja skydiving game, titled Shuriken Skies (yep, that exists), that was created in 3 days at the Toronto Independent Game Jam.
Gameplay
Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime is a game about two players who live on a giant pink death star. The goal of the game is to defend the ship from attacking alien bad guys by using the different devices scattered about the ship. The player will always be on the move, running to turrets and lasers to destroy the alien ships, manning the shields to keep themselves alive, and controlling the thrusters to move the ship to a safe distance.
The game can be played with either two players or one. As you move through the universe you will come across a variety of planets inhabited by all sorts of animals. Those animals have the ability to help you upgrade your ship in several different ways, (as long as you don’t destroy them all first).
The game is a finalist at the annual Independent Games Festival, nominated for excellence in visual art. From what I have seen, they totally deserve it.

Set to release sometime in 2013 for The PC and Mac.
