My Favorite Developers: Blizzard Entertainment

Blizzard Entertainment, makers of StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm, kicks butt as my top developers and publishers company.
This article is over 11 years old and may contain outdated information

I remember back in the day when Warcraft: Orcs & Humans was a big thing. I used to play the heck out of it, as well as StarCraft.

Nowadays, we have World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria and StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm (which I play a lot too), but we can’t forget the first games that Blizzard Entertainment has built into our hearts. In fact, let me tell you why I love Blizzard so much.

First off, Blizzard Entertainment wasn’t called Blizzard Entertainment in the beginning.

It was named Silicon & Synapse when the company was founded on February 8, 1991. Just three regular guys set out to make amazing games, Michael Morhaime, Allen Adham, and Frank Pearce, all with bachelor’s degrees. They started with creating game ports for other studios. The Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES), Sega Genesis, PlayStation, and even the Commodore 64 were all system that Silicon & Synapse had made games for.

Of course, we can’t forget about Windows, Macintosh, Mac OS, MS-DOS, and the Amiga. This shows how hard Blizzard has been working to make great games like Diablo, WoW, and StarCraft II.

Blizzard’s StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm has some of the best cinematics for the story of a game I have ever seen. Even their very first game, RPM Racing (short for Radical Psycho Machine Racing) for the SNES, is something to be an awe over. Battle Chess was one of the first Windows game I ever played and as a kid, it opened my eyes and inspired me to my huge passion for gaming.

The quality of their games has only grown over time.

Diablo is an action/role-playing/hack and slash video game that was groundbreaking for its time. When Diablo III  released in 2012, the game improved with better graphics, bolder gameplay, badass music, and even added PvP to the game. As one of my favorite games, StarCraft isn’t just your regular old RTS game. Their detail in the gameplay mechanics is something spectacular that all other developers wish they had put in their games at the time and many have since copied.

Blizzard Entertainment has built a multimillion dollar company over the span of 22 years. They have touched people’s hearts when they were kids and even shock us with amazing games now. BlizzCon is an event where people go to show there love for gaming and experience new and upcoming games from Blizzard.
