1. Titanfall
Personally, I am extremely excited for Titanfall’s release in March of 2014. Players fight in a war-torn world filled to the brim with advanced technology and, my favorite, giant robots.
Unfortunately many will be disappointed, for Titanfall will have no single player, leaving it online-only. But I love it. This is because the creators of the game, Respawn Entertainment, are able to focus on an immersive and detailed multiplayer experience. This is clearly evident in gameplay.
On an interesting note, the founders of this company were fired from Activision due to “breaches of contract and insubordination.” They promptly started Respawn Entertainment to defend their honor. All I have to say is that this game better be good.
The giant robots are called Titans, and can be deployed by players throughout the game for use. The machines have a protective force-field that is active for 30 seconds. After this period of time, the robots, as well as their pilots are susceptible to heavy damage.
Although, as soon as I saw the gameplay, I could only think of one thing. Destiny. It looks like a mockery of the upcoming Bungie game. This will obviously pose some competition between an underdog, and a critically acclaimed legend.
2. Destiny
This leads me right into our next game. Destiny; Bungie’s brand new marvel coming in 2014. Unlike Titanfall, this features a beautiful single player and multiplayer. According to Bungie, the game takes place in a universe where earth is no longer inhabitable due to a viscous enemy, remaining unknown. The civilians who survived are transported to another “world” that hovers above the surface of the earth called the Traveler.
In Destiny, Bungie provides three classes for players to use during story mode and online.
The Warlock allows players to use energy and magic to fend off enemies. This class has four confirmed abilities.
- Solar flares (Harnessing the power of the sun)
- Nova Bombs (Channeling the Traveler’s energy and unleashing it in an explosive way)
- Gliding (Summons the forces around you to allow increased elevation when jumping)
- Radiance (Emits a yellow force, and then fires a blue missile similar to a Nova Bomb)
The Titan allows players to reminisce about Bungie’s past… if you know what I mean. Using this class, you can wield light machine guns and rocket launchers. You could already say this will be the power class in Destiny. Of course it doesn’t stop there. Titans have a special attack called the Fist of Havoc. This is where players can strike the ground releasing a powerful shockwave capable of destroying players within the blast radius. Titans are also able to create a large spherical energy shield to protect allies as well as themselves. Now, don’t think for a second that the Titan’s Spartan-like armor will slow you down. Not only is its equipment amazing for protection, its special abilities prove that this class can really hold its own.
Last, but certainly not least, the Hunter is Bungie’s third available class. This character combines speed and strength creating a form of agility not seen in any other class. Hunters are known as “rebels” in Destiny, which you could probably tell by the way they dress. They are known for their hooded cloaks and lightly armored outfits. Hunters use sniper rifles and handguns. Not to mention their awesome knife skills. This class, like the others, does come with a few special abilities. My personal favorite is Golden Gun. This allows your character to supercharge your weapons causing greater damage to opponents.
3. Halo 5
Now, this is actually my favorite out of the three. I put it last on the list because its release date is extremely vague. They say it will come out in the “Holiday of 2014.” This could mean late November, or December. I’m not sure. Anyway, all we know as a community is that Halo 5 will be the second installment of 343’s continuation of Bungie’s popular series. This is also known as the Reclaimer Saga. I know that isn’t much, but everything else I’ve read about this game is nothing but leaked footage and rumors. I suspect we will get more information from 343 Industries in the coming months.
Well that about wraps up my Top 3 Games of 2014. What are you looking forward to this year?
