What’s likely one of the most awaited sequels in the franchise, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 3 still lingers in the Obsidian offices. So much so that Obsidian still has semi-regular get-togethers for ideas and what-ifs on the game.

While speaking to IGN, the project director of the upcoming game Pillars of Eternity, Josh Sawyer, and lead producer Brandon Adler revealed that many of the employees at Obsidian are still very much interested in the sequel to its blockbuster franchise.

After BioWare’s Star Wars: The Old Republic popped up a couple years ago and being interpreted as the sequel to Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic by BioWare, many thought that the series was doomed afterwards.

“It’s something that comes up every three to six months … we bring it up and talk about it. Not anything terribly serious, but we just say ‘wouldn’t it be cool if?’ and just develop some ideas for what we’d do with that stuff.”
-Brandon Adler

Now Sawyer says “I think at that time LucasArts was really focused on what they considered to be extreme, extreme blockbusters and even though the Knights of the Old Republic series was pretty successful, it just never seemed like something that was going to happen at that time. Having said that, a lot of time has passed. I know there are a lot of people at the studio who are really interested in doing a project like that.”

With Obsidian’s interest still kindled hopefully we can see a new addition to the series sometime in the very near future. For now you can check out their talk with IGN in the video below.
