Super Avalanche brings fast paced, wall climbing action with "throw you into the fire difficulty."

Beast Games, makers of a game known as Avalanche, showed off a expanded sequel this weekend at PAX: Avalanche 2: Super Avalanche. The game is currently working its way through Steam Greenlight

What is Super Avalanche?

The floor is lava, slowly rising to overtake your squishy, bouncy marshmallow self. To survive, you must race up a set of procedurally generated falling blocks, jumping on enemies heads and avoiding falling to your death in the lava below.

The game is fast paced, wall-climbing action. If you’ve ever played BattleBlock Theater or any other game with well done wall-climbing, you’ll be familiar with the notion. Your little white marshmallow body slides and jumps up blocks with a frenetic pace. It’s entertaining and addictive, and it’s hard

The Beast Games representative called in “Throw you into the fire difficulty.” The first five or six rounds, I barely managed to make it past 30 feet, continuing to over-estimate my jumping height, or getting squished to death by falling blocks. This painful difficulty is balanced by quick restarts which get the player quickly back into the game.

I wasn’t able to really explore one of the mechanics that Super Avalanche advertises, the slotting of items to create new abilities (mostly because I died too quickly to actually utilize them). Users can stack items and abilities into interesting combinations, and items include things like double jump.

Don’t forget to check out Super Avalanche at the Midnight City booth, or if you’re not at PAX to give a look at their Steam Greenlight page
