PAX East: First post from Gaminglikeadad

I am happy to report that there are a lot of games that look really family friendly.

Besides the traffic getting into Boston, and the traffic walking the floor, this has been one of the best days I have had in a long time! Being a Dad, and bringing my children meant a whole other set of priorities and problems.

I imagine that walking around in a crowded city in Canada is the only time I would hear so many people saying “Sorry!” “Excuse me!” and “thanks!” but the people walking around on the floor were actually the least of our problems. Any time you have an crowded indoor event, the worst problem is usually the noise, and PAX is no exception.

But for a dad, this means the brightest and coolest looking booths are usually the worst for a child. They are PACKED with people, and the noise level is usually enough to make my ears hurt. My 3 year old wanted SO badly to go see the League of Legends area, but with the announcer coming over the speakers, and insane amount of people, I decided to pull her away.

I am happy to report that there are a lot of  games that look really family friendly, but my daughter was usually too distracted to try and play. There were plenty of stickers and pins so that kept her distracted and happy, but with all the stuffed animals sitting around it was hard to make her happy just to have a pin!

Overall I am happy to say that the event is at least “kid okay” and I never felt like the jerk who brought a kid to the wrong place. I will be even more excited to bring them next year, and hopefully have an even  better time!

My name is Levi Haag. I am a father of two amazing kids, husband, a writer, and most people tell me I’m a pretty good guy. It can be tough to find good games and take care of kids, so I decided to try and help other dads out by reviewing games that I can play with my kids or while they are asleep.
