TERA‘s free to play transition is coming at some point. Despite the announcement that the North American servers would be going F2P on February 16 there are rumors that the Rising patch will hit on February 5 instead. Come on, EME. At least try to be a bit more transparent with your community.

F2P Launch = When?

Remember when old subscribers were invited back to the game for a week? Then the free time was extended by another week? Then indefinitely? This is certainly not the first time EME has changed their minds about free play time. When the game launched, they gave preorder holders a head start on the game and then allowed non-subscribers to play for a week after release.

The rumors that TERA: Rising was coming on February 5 stemmed from the game’s Steam UK page, which previously stated that free to play was coming on that date. The listing has since been edited.

We can assume that the rumor was just that — a rumor — based on two things:

  1. The listing is for TERA EU run by GameForge and not En Masse.
  2. The listing no longer states the date as being February 5.

It’s easy enough to think that it may have indicated that the date would just be for the European F2P launch, but its removal points to this being a mistake. Then again, it’s hard to tell if you take both En Masse and GameForge’s track histories into account.

EU Wins

W-wait. What!?

Okay, fine. At least in one department.

According to the most recent maintenance notification, players with Veteran status will have priority in login queues on the European servers. Lucky!

EME has denied that Founder accounts will be getting login priority once Rising hits. Are we finally getting the short end of the stick, or is EME being tight-lipped? EU has been stepping it up in keeping players informed over these past few weeks. I have to admit that I’m jealous, considering the spotty information we’ve been getting over here in TERA NA.

On a Totally Different Note

There isn’t a whole lot of TERA-related swag we get over here, but Japan gets some really sweet stuff every once in a while. Unfortunately it’s all Elin-related. I say unfortunately, but Elins are my second favorite race.

Anyway.

There’s a new Elin figure coming out in May that is available for preorder now through some online retailers (AmiAmi) that looks great. Now, I’m not saying this is the best way for you to spend $120 + shipping. But it is a pretty good way to spend it.
