The Champion of Light-The Harbinger of Darkness: Dunklen Eins

Dunklen comes from a group of Orrian refugees who fled Orr when news of the Charr assault came. Taking a long boat ride to Elona, his family settled there and eventually came in contact with the Order of Whispers. Taking up an offer to return to Tyria and fight, they began a longstanding membership with the Order. While not all of the Einses joined the Order, the ones who did held up an ancient tradition in Orr, the Champions of Light.

In Orr nearly everyone was born with magical ability, but a rare talent cropped up among some families. The ability to see and feel the darkness or light of an area, or even a person. Using this ability those blessed, or cursed, with it would eradicate those they saw were filled with darkness, or in their words “Infected.”

A rare few, though, would do the opposite. Overwhelmed by their ability they would become the infected they wished to destroy. Nearly insane and all the more filled with hate they made it their quest to destroy Tyria. Those that became infected always felt that there was a darkness so great in power that it could end everything with hardly an effort. This being was just out of reach of the realm, but with their ability they could sense it, and vice-versa. After many years it finally managed to make contact with them, but only through a single individual they named the “Harbinger.” Through these persons they learned the will of their Lord of Chaos, to sew ruin into the world. And so they named themselves the Agents of Ruin.

After the sinking of Orr many of those with the talent perished with their country, but with Dunklen’s family, it lived on all the way to present day. His family practiced strictly in the way of the Champion, and those that showed any signs of changing were cut down.

Dunklen though is an odd sort; after watching his parents die before him at the hands of Charr and being made the last surviving one, of his knowledge, of his family his personality…split.

One half sought to continue on his families tradition of the way of the Champion. The other one though sought to destroy the Charr at any means possible, even the destruction of the world.

And so after waiting many years the Lord of Chaos once again had his Harbinger, but an unreliable one at the least. Due to his split personality, at any time Dunklen will violently transition between the Champion of Light and the Harbinger of Darkness. And so, he lives both lives in the hopes that one day he will one day be able to fix it.
