The Elitest Mentality

Don't let the Elitist Mentality spoil your fun.
This article is over 11 years old and may contain outdated information

Have you ever been told you weren’t good enough, or didn’t have the right gear to do a dungeon, raid, or boss fight in an MMO? Have you ever said this to someone else? I know I’ve been on both sides of the coin at some point or another.

Why does this happen?

What causes people to adapt this “elitist” mentality? I was thinking about this a week or so ago when I was in a foul mood while playing MMO Tera, because a few of my friends wouldn’t take my full +12 Regents gear Lancer to Manaya’s Core Hard Mode. I realize we all want to succeed when we find a few minutes to run the hardest dungeons in our games, but if you take your friends and you all progress together it makes so much less mess to clean up.

Suddenly it hit me; the people who are the more extreme elitists are the ones who were previously left out, the ones who’ve failed several times to complete the dungeon already. We get so stressed out by our failures that we only want the best the next time we go. After that, it becomes ingrained in us to only take the best for quick, easy runs. We’ve all been there, nobody was ever a pro right out of installation, so don’t let the elitist mentality of others bring you down. Go out and look for people in the same boat as you, do some research as a team, build cohesiveness and start your own progression through the dungeon or whatever quest you decide to undertake. Remember, it’s just a game, so have some fun.
