This One Important Camp Feature is Still Missing from Baldur’s Gate 3

One change would make camp in BG3 feel more like home.

Already a massive game with tons of features, Baldur’s Gate 3 continues receiving updates to fix bugs and add more content. These additions include cosmetic updates like the Magic Mirror or fixes to how dye works. But this one camp feature is still missing from Baldur’s Gate 3.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Needs to Add This Camp Feature Yesterday

Whether you play as one of the Origin Characters or create a custom Tav, you don’t get a tent at camp. That’s right: our companions can take shelter from the elements, but we suffer with a sleeping bag as our only protection night after night. But there’s more than one reason that adding a tent at camp would be a great feature beyond the obvious.

Tav Deserves Their Own Tent

Aside from being a nice touch and perhaps giving some buffs to Long Rests, a tent for Tav at camp could be customizable. I pick up a ton of random junk while playing through the acts, so I’d finally have a place to store my collection of stolen dinnerware a la’ the rooms in The Outlast Trials, one of the game’s most fun elements.

Then, we could have options to purchase decorations for our tents to create a space that fits the personality of each of our individual characters. I could copy Astarion and fill my space with fancy pillows. Or maybe take after Gale and fill it with books. It doesn’t matter in the end, just that we have our own customizable space.

The lack of such a feature is underscored even more by the addition of new camp animations in Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 6. The post-Valentines Day update added new idle animations for characters in-camp, with many getting actions that reflect their character, such as Halsin making wood carvings or Minthara staring at the sun and contemplating her sunlight sensitivity.

A tent feature doesn’t need to be overly complex, either. I’d be happy having my own space at camp to feel like part of the world. And I imagine other players share the sentiment. Being able to customize my little space is just an added layer of immersion — and a reason to collect more random items. Because I’m going to keep collecting random items.

And that’s one camp feature still missing from Baldur’s Gate 3. While I don’t expect Larian to add this feature as they continue working on updates, I’d be thrilled to see it in the future.
