Throwback Thursday: Looking Back at Sunset Riders

Looking back at a great western style game, Sunset Riders.

Sunset Riders was a title that was made available by Konami. This game was mad available for Genisis and SNES in 1992 and 1993 respectively. Sunset Riders was also made into a coin operated arcade machine.

Before we had amazing 3D western worlds to roam around such as Red Dead Redemption and Gun; we had Sunset Riders. Although this games graphics do not hold up well the gameplay is still just as fun as it was when I played it as a child. Sunset Riders allowed players to play the side scrolling shooters that we were familiar with in the 90’s.

As most games were back then; Sunset Riders has multiplayer capabilities. This allowed friends to play on the same screen and same console. The player or players would choose their western bounty hunter and be on their way.

Playing through levels consisted of running through small towns while on foot. Players would also get put in the position to chase a train while it powered down the tracks. Doing both of these tasks would have to be done while avoiding taking damage from the barrage of bullets from th enemies that they would face.

Sunset Riders is not a visually stunning game by any of today’s standards. The gameplay more than makes up for it. If you are looking to have a good time with friends on the same console and television this could be what you are searching for.
